Bereavement
"As we grow older the death of a loved one is something that we all have to face. Many of us have already coped with the death of parents, brothers or sister, and sometimes the death of a child or grandchild. There may also be other problems for the elderly when bereaved. They may be struggling to cope with mobility and health problems, living on their own, living some distance from their family or indeed not having any family. All these factors add to the stress of coping with the death of a partner."
The above paragraph is the introduction to a comprehensive document which provides some extremely useful information, contact and advice on the distressful subject of bereavement and associated planning. Click Bereavement for a printable version of the complete document for your own use.

Attendance Allowance
Most of our members will have read in the press or seen news items which suggest as Senior Citizens or Retires we are missing out on allowances which may be available to assist with day to day living. Perhaps these allowances are not readily available as suggested in the press but your attention should be drawn to the ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE which is often referred to as the AA.
This allowance is a tax-free non means tested benefit available to the over 65's who may need help with personal care due to physical, mental or both types of disability.
For more info, download Alex's Attendance allowance pdf document.

Inheritance Tax and War Vererans
In the Inheritance Tax legislation there appears to be a little known loophole which allows survivors of conflicts to be exempt the rigors of having to pay inheritance tax, which is administered on estates at 40% in the pound above threshold limits.
To find out more, read the following Inheritance Tax document.

Benenden Health Care Society
and
The Civil Service Benevolent fund
At periods throughout our lives most of us will require help or assistance with matters related to our health or other areas of concern. Advice related to problems may be available from a number of sources and many of you are probably members of organisations such as THE BENENDEN HEALTH SOCIETY or the CIVIL SERVICE BENEVOLENT FUND (CSBF). Perhaps it is time to reflect once again on these organisations and the services and benefits for those of you who are already members and to remind others they may still be eligible to join, including family members where appropriate.
To find out more about both, download Benenden and csbf.pdf

Nursing Homes and Continuing Care
Some of you will have read, viewed or listened to the articles and items in the media related to the scandal of the elderly being robbed of their homes, savings and pensions to pay for their care in a nursing home, when in 98% of cases this should have been free under the law.
If you are interested in this subject, download and read this Nursing Homes and care document and more information is available via many of the organizations in the Useful Addresses section of our own web site caa-rsa by using the links to access their web sites or by phoning or writing to the organizations.
Update from Alex dated 10/05/2011
Two further documents provided, both written by Stephen Squires. The first is The Role of Social Services, a document that discusses the role of Social Services once patients have been handed over by the NHS.
The second,An outrageous and disgraceful conspiracy to defraud, is a document that reveals how the NHS have adopted a policy of subjecting certain patients to 'Eligibility Criteria' by which means they seek to avoid paying for the continuing health care which many frail sick and vulnerable elderly people require.
