About Us

Formed in 1978, the Retired Staff Association (RSA) has three major objectives:
- To represent the views of its members at any forum that may affect their rights and benefits under the Civil Aviation Authority Pension Scheme (CAAPS).
- To act as a link with employers to provide a welfare service to help alleviate problems in retirement.
- To promote social communications and activities between members and colleagues.
RSA membership is open to any person who has retired or is intending to retire, including those taking early retirement, from employment with the CAA or NATS. More importantly we also look to employees to include their spouses or partners on the application form. Membership is also open to widows or widowers of former employees.
Membership is free but, there will be an annual subscription of £12 - introduced from 1 April 2011. This is still regarded as a great bargain for a number of reasons, including:
- Representation on the Pensions Committee of CAA and NATS, and participation in the nomination and selection of Member Nominated Trustees (MNT’S) to the Board of the CAA Pension Scheme.
- Membership of any of the twelve Branches located throughout the UK. Branches organise outings, parties and other social activities. In addition an Annual Reunion is held in Central London, each autumn, which brings together RSA members countrywide.
- An Annual General Meeting of the RSA, held in April/May each year, at which the Central Committee is elected and Association policy set.
- A regular newsletter called ‘Contrail’ which provides members with information on Branch and Central Committee activities and articles affecting members’ interests.
- Access to the RSA website (www.caa-rsa.org.uk) for up-to-date news on activities and events.
Both CAA and NATS have been very supportive of the RSA in the past, and contributed
to the overall administration costs of ‘Contrail’ and the Central and Branch
Committees by the payment of ‘Per Capita’ grants based on annual membership
numbers. This has now changed and the RSA is going to have to be self financing to a significant degree
The RSA is an active, forward looking organisation, which works on behalf of all CAA
and NATS pensioners and has close links to the Trustees of the Pension Scheme
and CAA and NATS management, and the Trade Unions. To maintain this ability to represent retired members’ interests we need as large
a membership as possible. To that end we are offering free membership with
an annual subscription of £12, and we encourage you to complete your membership
application form, and come and join us.
The constitution of the RSA was revised in May 2010. The updated constitution is available for you to download and read if you wish.
The constitution was further amended after the AGM in 2011. This addendum contains the changes.
We are YOUR voice and a warm welcome awaits you.
We hope we can count on your support
