BBQ
Saturday 21 July 2007
The BBQ was as successful in its second
year as in the first and looks to be a fixture on the calendar. The pub puts
on a good spread and we have our own area in the garden. We were again lucky
with the weather despite a variable forecast.
The BBQ this year will probably be on the
6 September (to be confirmed).
Christmas dinner at Pearse House on the 4
December
It
was good to see that the Christmas dinner attracted some new faces and numbers
were up in December, even if some stalwarts were away. It was as usual very
enjoyable. Pearse House puts on a very enjoyable meal with good choices at a
reasonable price in pleasant surroundings. We eat in our own room decorated
for the event. Pictures are displayed branch notice board http://groups.msn.com/CAANATSRSAEAST
Ten members arrived at
Swanwick at 1100 on Tuesday 6 May for our spring event.
We were met by Rick
Boden who gave an introduction to the centre, after we had taken lunch at the
restaurant. Rick was able to make this interesting to both those who were well
versed and to wives who had only heard I second hand before. No mean feat. We
toured the two operations rooms and systems control. Rick then took the ladies
to be entertained in Distress and Diversion while Dave Evans, the Systems
Controller, took us on a tour of the equipment areas. Dave demonstrated a
truly impressive knowledge of all the systems, answering all the questions put
to him. Members were however able to correct him on a couple of matters of
history!

AGM & Social
The AGM & Social
was on the 2 April.
The highlight of
the AGM was the presentation of fine brandy glasses to Andy to show the
branch’s appreciation for his 18 years as Chairman. The presentation was
made by the treasurer Gilbert Harding. Gilbert in turn announced his
retirement as treasurer.
Jim Fuller is the new chairman and is also now temporary treasurer
as well. We desperately need a new treasurer, do not be afraid to volunteer.
(Gilbert once said ‘it feels good to be paying for everyone’).
Ted Pillinger remains secretary, John Robinson accounts verifier,
Lynda Pillinger is the new social secretary, Andy Barron remains as a humble
committee member and we welcome Alan & Muriel Richardson to the Committee.
Forthcoming events:
1.
BBQ Queens Head, Allens Green
6 Sept (to be confirmed)
